Cinephiles, rejoice: The trailer for Wes Anderson’s newest film, “Asteroid City,” has been released to the public. The movie will be a comedy sci-fi written, co-produced and directed by Anderson, who is known for his pastel color schemes and creative use of horizontal space. He has directed box office hits like “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “Mr. Fantastic Fox,” both of which have received heaps of critical acclaim.

The film is similar to other Wes Anderson films in the sense that it has a very well-known cast, but with big names like Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Willem Dafoe, Matt Dillon, Margot Robbie, Maya Hawke and Steve Carell, it is set to be one of the biggest ensembles in his career to date.

Taking place in a fictional desert city in 1955 southwestern America, “Asteroid City” is described as a story about “a quirky town centred around an asteroid crater, which may or may not involve some extra-terrestrials.”

The trailer, which was posted online on March 29, has been met with lots of positive reception. As Charles Pulliam-Moore writes for The Verge, “…The movie’s playing to all of Anderson’s strengths and going to give all of his fans exactly what they showed up for.”

“Asteroid City” is coming to theaters on June 16, 2o23.
