Murdaugh Murders
March 15, 2023
In the town of Hampton, South Carolina, Alex Murdaugh was convicted of murdering his wife and son. There are currently several investigations surrounding the well-known family who has been practicing law in the state since 1910.
Rumors of murder surrounding the Murdaugh family were known to many. In a Netflix series about the family, many people in town explained that they were known for making issues go away.
This all began in 2015 with the mysterious death of Stephen Smith. Smith was found lying in the middle of a dark country road after having car trouble. Some say that he and the eldest Murdaugh son, Buster, were romantically involved.
Buster was rumored to have “helped” Smith, however, his body remained battered and beaten on the country road. To this day no member of the family was questioned.
The next incident took place in February of 2019 after Paul Murdaugh, the youngest son of the family was involved in a boating accident as a result of drunk driving. The boat crashed into Archers Creek Bridge killing 19-year-old Mallory Beach.
After the incident, Alex Murdiagh claimed that his son’s friend Connor Cook was driving the boat instead of Paul whose blood alcohol content was three times over the legal limit. The truth quickly came to light after testing.
According to CBS.news.,” Paul Murdaugh was indicted and charged with three felony counts of boating under the influence, including causing the death of Mallory Beach and seriously injuring two other passengers. Paul pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was out on bond awaiting trial”. The trial never occurred.
These crimes led to the investigation of a double murder that took place on the Murdaugh property. Margaret “Maggie” Murduagh and Paul Murduagh were shot and killed. Alex Murdugah claimed to have found them after arriving back home. However, phone records, recordings, and physical evidence contradicted his statement.
Alex Murdaugh was sentenced to life in prison for his wife and son’s murder.
