PETA To Begin Operation at Amazon Fulfillment Centers
March 9, 2023
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is well known for their efforts in providing aid to animals from all sorts in need. This can range from neglected household pets, all the way to large corporations and their treatment of commercial livestock. Now, PETA seeks to take on its largest task yet, Amazon Fulfillment Centers and the workers that occupy them.
Amazon has met recent controversy from the general public in regards to how workers are treated. Between grueling shifts, frequent injuries, and lack of provided breaks, Amazon has had investigation after investigation performed to expose malpractices.
PETA has now announced plans to begin operations to free Amazon workers and provide aid in the form of care packages. “PETA is very familiar with challenges resembling this ongoing Amazon issue.” states Vega N, a representative from the organization. “While we’ve never worked in the human issues area before, it is very much due.”
The first set of care packages to workers is set to include:
Toothbrush & toothpaste
Informative pamphlet
First aid kit
$100 Outback Steakhouse Gift Card
PETA activists also plan to be on-site at multiple Amazon distribution and fulfillment centers as well. There is no set date for protest dates, but it is assumed that they will be long-term and involve many in local communities. In local impact, the Distribution Center on Jones Sausage Road in Garner, North Carolina is set to be a location for protesting.
We talked to some locals about their opinions:
“I think I’m going to do my own protest against PETA by having a Southern BBQ in front of THEIR protests.” – Jayden Renteria
“I see this happening, I’m stunned, what are they protesting for really? I’ve never seen an animal before, what are they even protesting about?” – Trey Cameron
“Amazon has mistreated workers for years, it totally makes sense that PETA is there.” – Jeremy Shaner
It will be interesting to see what happens next, stay tuned for more factual information.
