The Weeknd’s Spotify Achievement
March 10, 2023
The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, has been the first to accomplish 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify with his newly released remix of “Die for You” featuring Ariana Grande, giving him that final nudge to those 100 million monthly listeners as well as his upcoming album Live at the SoFi Stadium, which follows his HBO concert with the same title The Weeknd: Live at SoFI Stadium.
This allows his career to continue to grow, performing songs from some of his different albums such as “Party Monster,” “Die for You” from Starboy, some from After Hours, “I Was Never There” from My Dear Melancholy, “The Hills” from Beauty Behind the Madness, as well as bringing his past back with his older songs like “Kiss Land” and “The Morning” from his Trilogy album.
Tesfaye also has an upcoming HBO drama, titled The Idol using Euphoria creator, Sam Levinson, premiering in late 2023 and starring actor Lily-Rose Depp. It’s no surprise The Weeknd has made this Spotify milestone, seeing as his popularity has been growing more and more every year since his first release in 2011 titled House of Balloons. Then in 2012, the songs in that album were rereleased in his Trilogy album along with added songs. The album had an R&B vibe, which his current music has somewhat trailed away from. Although, he has won an R&B performance Grammy. Tesfaye has won 4 Grammys: two in 2016, one in 2018 for Starboy, and one in 2022.
As of right now, The Weeknd has even surpassed 100 million monthly listeners and has now obtained 105.1 million monthly listeners.
