How Often Do People Follow Through on New Years Resolutions?

We all have failed new year’s resolutions, but how many people follow through on new year’s resolutions?

According to a study in 2016, 38% of Americans make a new year’s resolution, but by the end of the year only 9% feel that they successfully achieved their new year’s resolution. In a previous study in 2007, 52% of the participants were confident in the beginning of the year, but by the end of 2007 only 12% of people felt that they achieved their new year’s resolution.

After 2 weeks 71% of people still feel successful in their new year’s resolution. After a month, only 64% of people still feel confident. After half a year, 46% of people are still successful.

What are some of the reasons people fail at keeping their new year’s resolution? A lot of people set unrealistic goals, or try to do it all at once. Others forgot about their resolutions or procrastinated. Some set too many resolutions and made the goal much harder to achieve.

What are some of the most popular new year’s resolutions?  52% of people say exercise more, 50% say eat healthier, 40% say lose weight, and 39% say save more money.

What are the ways people can achieve their resolutions?  Be realistic, don’t do something that will set you up for failure.  Plan ahead,  and do not make your resolution on New Year’s Eve. Have someone to hold you accountable to prevent laziness. Outline your plan, and talk about it to your friends and family.
