$15 Million Settlement: How Cash App Users Can Get $2,500 Direct Payments

Users of Cash App, a widely used online payment service with approximately 56 million transacting users, can claim over $2,500 following a major data breach settlement. This settlement totals $15 million and stems from allegations of security breaches and mishandling of customer complaints by Cash App and its parent company, Block (formerly known as Square).

Claiming Your Money
The deadline to submit claims is quickly approaching on November 18, 2024. Customers who had accounts between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024, are eligible to file a claim, particularly if they experienced fraudulent withdrawals or transfers.

According to the settlement website, individuals can receive reimbursement for losses related to identity theft, credit monitoring, and associated fees. Additionally, users can claim compensation for lost time due to the incident, valued at up to $65, as well as any losses incurred from unauthorized access to their accounts.

While Cash App denied any wrongdoing, it chose to settle to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Other Settlement News
This Cash App settlement is part of a broader trend of class action settlements related to privacy breaches. Recently, streaming service Tubi agreed to pay nearly $20 million to resolve a lawsuit alleging it shared users’ personal information with third parties without consent, violating the Video Privacy Protection Act. Class members must submit valid claims by November 28 to receive their share of the Tubi settlement.

Additionally, Clif Bar is facing scrutiny from a class action lawsuit claiming that the company misled customers into believing its protein bars were healthy. The lawsuit argues that while Clif Bar markets its products as “nutrition for sustained energy,” nearly 40% of the calorie content comes from added sugars. Individuals who purchased an Original Clif Bar or Clif Kid ZBar in California or New York between April 2014 and March 2023 are eligible for a payout from this lawsuit.
