CDC has updated the COVID-19 guidelines

The newest COVID – 19 variant, Omicron, impacted the United States of America in ways that can’t be imagined. Though it isn’t as deadly as the other variants like delta, it is the most contagious and easily transmitted variant found. Due to Omicron being not as fatal as its different variants, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its guidelines regarding quarantine. The CDC stated that:

Under the condition that you test positive for COVID-19

* Whether you are fully vaccinated or not

  • Isolate yourself at home for five days
  • After the five days, if you have no symptoms, you can leave the isolation
  • Once you leave isolation, continue to wear your mask for five extra days

Under the condition that you were around someone with COVID-19

* If you are fully vaccinated or have received the first and second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer COVID vaccine within the last six months or if you have completed the first and second dose of the J&J vaccine within the last two months

  • Wear a mask around others for ten days
  • If possible, get tested on day five

* If you have received the first and second dose of either the Moderna or Pfizer COVID vaccine over six months ago or if you have received the first and second dose of the J&J vaccine over two months ago or you are not vaccinated

  • Isolate at home for five days and after that, continue to wear a mask for five extra days
  • If you are not able to isolate, you must wear a mask for ten days
  • If possible, get tested on day five

The new and updated COVID-19 guidelines have allowed companies and places with staffing issues to re-open their doors to the public. The National Museum of Natural History and several National Art Museums like the Metropolitan Museum of Art were closed temporarily due to the shortage of staff members. As cases climb quickly, restaurants and small businesses may face more closures or new restrictions in the months to come.
