Both the JV Rams and Comets football teams came into this game at Comets Stadium on hot streaks. Hundreds were on hand to watch the game on a beautiful spring evening.
The Comets received the ball to start the game, but they could not get anything going. On the Rams’ first possession, they took over at the Comets’ 48 yard line, and quickly moved the ball down the field. Running back Robbie Albaugh punched in the score from one yard out. The Rams failed to convert on the two point try, but they held a 6-0 lead early in the game.
The Rams and Comets fought back and forth, until the Rams gained momentum and Robbie Albaugh punched another touchdown in. Again, the Rams can’t get past the defense and fail another 2-pt conversion. This marks the end of the first quarter 12-0.
The Rams start the second quarter on the Comets 32 yard line. After a third down conversion, the Rams got another rushing touchdown, this time from quarterback Chase Massey. The successful two point try pushed the score to 20-0 in favor of the Rams.
On ensuing the kickoff, the Comets punch them in the mouth with a 65 yard touchdown return. The Comets then convert a 2-pt conversion making the score 20-8.
After a hard fought eight minutes, the Rams are in scoring position. Chase Massey connected with wideout Savion McKinnon for a 35 yard score. Another successful two point conversion brought the score to 28-8, Rams at the end of the first half.
In the third quarter, after both teams struggled to gain momentum, the Comets pushed down the field and scored on an 11 yard rushing score. The two point attempt was successful, and suddenly, the Comets were within 8 points of the lead.
With three minutes left, the Rams were faced with a third and five on the Comets’ 11 yard line. Chase Massey hit Ceejay Hargrove for the touchdown, and another Robbie Albaugh two point conversion pushed the Rams’ lead to 36-18 at the end of the third quarter.
At the start of the fourth quarter, the Comets pushed into the red zone, and on a fourth down play, the Rams intercepted the pass to maintain their lead. After a quick Rams three and out, the Comets quickly move the ball up the field and score on a passing touchdown. The two point conversion failed, but the Comets are within six points at 36-22. This makes the score 36-22.
Soon after the Rams moved the ball up the field but couldn’t get in the endzone. From there, neither team was able to get anything going, and the game ended with the Rams winning 36-22. The Rams are on to play the West Johnston Wildcats. The Cats are (2-1).
