Super Bowl LV Goes to the Bucs

The Super Bowl is a historic game where two football teams try to prove they are the best in the NFL. In Super Bowl LV (55) the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs battled to be named the champion.

Tom Brady, the brand-new quarterback of Tampa Bay, attempted to prove he can win a seventh Super Bowl ring on a new team. Patrick Mahomes, quarterback of Kansas City, is a previous league MVP and returning Super Bowl champion. This was the first time in Super Bowl history where both quarterbacks have already won a Super Bowl and have been named MVP.

The Chiefs won the coin toss and chose to defer. In the first quarter, the Bucs moved down the field quickly and scored the first points of the game with a touchdown. The Chiefs couldn’t get anything going throughout the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter, the score was (Bucs) 7-3 (Chiefs).

Going into the second quarter the Bucs got the ball and quickly scored a touchdown. The Chiefs answered back with a field goal. Soon after the Bucs scored again, a touchdown right before the half. At half time it was (Bucs) 21-6 (Chiefs). Tom Brady and teammate, Rob Gronkowski, seemed to be wreaking havoc on the Chiefs defense.

While many people tuned in to see which quarterback would dominate, many people also came for the long awaited halftime show. This year, The Weekend, a Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer entertained the small crowd lucky enough to attend in person as well as thousands of cardboard cutouts. Also notable at half-time was the game stats. The Chiefs committed 11 penalties and nine of those were in the first half. The penalties came out of frustration as they struggled to stay in the game.

At the start of the third quarter, the Chiefs again couldn’t get anything going, giving up on a quick three and out. Tom Brady and the Bucs punched the Chiefs in the mouth with a quick touchdown. The Chiefs marched down the field but were unable to get in the end zone and settled for a field goal. Tampa Bay drove down the field and scored a quick field goal, starting to put the game out of reach. Third quarter ended with the score of (Bucs) 31-9 (Chiefs).

In the fourth quarter, Chiefs fans were hoping for a miracle. The Chiefs got the ball at the start of the fourth and did nothing with it. No points were scored by the Chiefs.  Brady chewed clock time, and the Bucs defense stopped every attempt by Mahomes. The game ended with a score of (Bucs) 31-9 (Chiefs).

Tom Brady became a seven-time Super Bowl champion. He also won Super Bowl MVP with 21 completions out of 29 throw attempts, 201 throwing yards and three touchdowns. Rob Gronkowski, Tampa Bay’s tight end and former teammate in New England, had six receptions, 67 yards and two touchdowns. The Bucs defense broke through the Chiefs offensive line and forced Mahomes into sacks and many situations where he ran for his life.

With Brady getting a seventh ring, he proves he is arguably the best quarterback to ever play the game. Having dominated in New England, it was questionable whether he could have the same success in Tampa Bay on a new team. Tom Brady beat the fan favorite Patrick Mahomes with wisdom and experience.
