The eight time gold medalist Usain Bolt tested positive for Covid-19 after his mask-free 34th birthday party.
Jamaica’s Health Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton, confirmed the test result late Monday.
Bolt said, “I did not have any symptoms for Covid.” Bolt kept himself isolated after the party to keep others safe, and there are no confirmed cases in his family for Covid-19 except for him.
Bolt added, “Until then, I am saying anyone who has had contact with me should quarantine by themselves just to be safe, and just take it easy.”
Leon Bailey, a Jamaican soccer player, couldn’t leave the country because he attended Bolt’s party and had to be quarantined before he could go back to where he lives. Raheem Sterling, another soccer player, will be tested for Covid-19 before returning to a biosecure bubble in time for the start of the new football season.
Jamaica has had 1,870 confirmed cases, with 622 active cases and 16 deaths for this year.
